Warning for iDEAL Users: Ongoing Phone Scam Alert
We have received reports of scammers impersonating iDEAL and contacting users by phone. This may happen through an English-language automated message or a Dutch-speaking caller. Please note that iDEAL will never contact consumers by phone. If you receive a call claiming to be from iDEAL, hang up immediately to avoid potential fraud.
If you have already shared personal information, made a payment, or visited a suspicious website, please contact your bank directly for advice.
How to Recognise Phishing or Phone Scams
Scammers often employ techniques to create urgency or pressure. Watch for the following signs:
- Unexpected calls: The caller claims to represent iDEAL or another organisation without any prior notice or reason.
- Urgent warnings: The caller presents a concerning scenario, such as a suspicious payment that supposedly needs immediate action.
- Requests for sensitive information: Scammers may ask for personal or banking details, passwords, or security codes.
- Pressure to act quickly: You may be urged to take action right away, a common tactic to catch people off guard.
Please take this warning seriously and do not share sensitive information. For more information about fraud, phishing, and how to protect yourself, visit our Fraud or Phishing page.
